Danica Patrick Finds Passion in the Hills of Napa Valley Reflects on Her Journey to Somnium and Danica Rosé

Danica Patrick, retired racecar driver and entrepreneur, has found a second calling in the world of wine. After a trip to Napa Valley in 2006, dinner at The French Laundry, a tasting the next morning, she fell in love with the region. In 2009, she purchased a blank piece of property on the flanks of Howell Mountain in the newly acclaimed Crystal Springs AVA where she planted a vineyard.

Her dream began with Somnium — named for the Latin word for “dream.” Today the 22-acre estate, 6 planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, sits within Crystal Springs AVA, Napa Valley’s only all-hillside appellation, at an elevation Patrick calls “the sweet spot.” The vineyard has been CCOF-certified organically farmed since 2019. The estate wines can be enjoyed at a private, appointment-only tasting lounge in Calistoga. “Somnium and Danica Rosé both come from the same place for me — a belief that wine is about connection, not just what’s in the glass. Watching that idea grow into something real, vintage after vintage, is what keeps me passionate about this,” Patrick shares.

Most recently, Patrick expanded with Danica Rosé, a celebration of authenticity and joie de vivre. Made with Somnium’s winemaker Julien Fayard, whose family grows and produces the wine in Côtes de Provence, Danica Rosé is organically farmed, vegan, gluten-free, and fermented dry- built for year-round drinking, whether poured over ice or mixed into a cocktail. From the fruit to the custom embossed glass bottle, every detail was considered.
